It's moment you've all been waiting for. Well.....according to a Biglobe poll.
For those of you not in the know, the link is to Biglobes poll on most popular male characters. After Eren (#5) and Armin (#8), Levi finds himself at number 12. A true testament to Shingeki no Kyojin's overwhelming popularity when a character is ranked that high when he hadn't even made an appearance.
One of the nice perks of watching an anime of a manga you read, is getting a different style of the same story. Some might not be able to separate their instinct to criticise the anime - I'm just as guilty at times - but for those who can avoid the temptation, it's a perk. A perk that's made clear in episodes like this, with the introduction of important characters.
In Shingeki no Kyojin's manga, I never once thought of Levi (Rivaille) as the brooding bishonen badass he's portrayed as in the anime. It's a delightful take on his character that works with the anime's more light-hearted and sillier approach, making Kamiya Hiroshi a great casting choice to play the alpha male of the Scouting Legion. His introduction was the fun part of the episode; going around killing titans like it's any other day, before comforting a dying soldier. Hopefully they keep Levi as the fun anime alternative, because he'll definitely add a little humour to Shingeki no Kyojin by the being the boss character he already is.
The rest of the episode went back to Eren, Mikasa and Armin. I won't write much about it because I've gone into it great detail in my other post - link above - so I'll only point out how well Kitts Verman was used. He's already a detestable character for running away from his cadets in the previous episodes, making him the right guy to lead hot-blooded to "kill now, ask questions later." It essentially epitomizes what Shingeki no Kyojin has shown us time and time again; humans are weak. So weak that they'd fight amongst themselves when there's still danger everywhere.
Good episode all around, especially the inquisition part. We're back to a slower pace and the next episode will probably follow this pace as we see Armin stepping up for Eren - Mikasa already did her part with her "over my dead body stance."
