Other Manga and Anime News #36 (2012)
There's just a flood of anime news lately. All of it makes me hate the Winter 2013 season more and more. This post is all about other exciting projects to expect next year.
Kishi Seiji's 2 Anime
Director Kishi Seiji has two anime projects lined up for next year (so far). Both of them are adaptations of games, fitting for the man who did a great job with Persona 4. Seiji and Uezu Makoto team up once again for both of these projects. Incidentally, the studios behind these projects are very small and have little to their name.
Project 1 - Shin Megami Tensai: Devil Survivor 2
This RPG is being adapted over at Bridge and will air in the Spring 2013 season. [Source] The studio's resume consists of Mitsudomoe and literally one other OVA.
Here's the PV.
Project 2 - Daganronpa
This PSP adventure game is being adapted at Lerche. No definitive air time bracket besides 2013. [Source] Lerche's resume consists of Carnival Phantasm and one full TV anime series: Maji de Watashi ni Koi Shinasai!
Urobuchi Gen's Spring 2013 Anime Project
Urobuchi just refuses to slow down. I guess this is what happens when you churn out hit after hit and are in demand to the extreme. His next anime will air in the spring, most likely so that it doesn't clash with PSYCHO-PASS' second cour.
The project is titled Suisei no Gargantia and it will air in April 2013. Code Geass' assistant director and BONES' random job guy Murata Kazuya will be directing. Also hentai mangaka Naruko Hanaharu is doing character designs.
Yet again Urobuchi will be doing this project with Production I.G
Nekomonogatari: Kuro to Air on New Year's Eve
An event that was held today, announced that Nekomonogatari: Kuro will air on December 31st. The airing will be 2 hours long and no other news regarding length was disclosed. [Source] [PV]
At this point, the next installment of the Monogatari series can be anything. From OVA to movie to actual TV series with more episodes to come.
Manga Recommendations
Now that we've looked at tonnes of great anime news, let's look at something manga related.
As the year comes to an end, various magazines release their top recommendations for the demographics. So far there are 2 of these lists. Da Vinci Magazines Top Manga 2012 and Kono Manga ga Sugoi! You can see the lists for yourself. Here are some observations from me:
- Silver Spoon was in both lists as was Chihayafuru.
- Kono Manga ga Sugoi! leant more towards shonen series and shojo series for its lists. Da Vinci grouped it by male-oriented and female-oriented.
- Kono Manga ga Sugoi! also included a ranking of manga magazines. I agreed with them placing Bessatsu Shonen Magazine higher than Shonen Magazine and ranking Shonen Sunday above those two.
