Kamisama Hajimemashita - 03

Three episodes go by and I'm convinced that I like Kamisama Hajimemashita, even though logic dictates I shouldn't.
Believe me when I say that there is nothing special to see her. Kamisama Hajimemashita doesn't really have anything that makes it stand out in terms of plot, which was made extremely evident this episode, nor does it wow us with any animation. That said, it's because it isn't trying to be spectacular that it ends up as a very enjoyable watch on a weekly basis.
There really isn't much to comment on this episode story wise. It's your typical shojo and occasionally shonen episode where the main protagonist has to help out someone with their love life, thus the series doesn't make any strides with its main story. As a familiar scenario, it was still really fun to watch Nanami and Tomoe come together to deliver more of the slapstick comedy that arises from their simple interactions.
Whilst nothing really happened with the plot - I'm not sure if Kamisama Hajimemashita will be anything but episodic regardless - there does seem to be a bit of goal in the end. Getting Tomoe to recognise Nanami as a rightful earth deity isn't the most exciting end game though given what we've seen from the series so far, it is probably the most fitting. Not knowing how the manga actually progresses, I can't say this is what the story was originally intended to be but it isn't a bad way to with a 13 episode adaptation.
Focusing on just this one part of the story is another reason why Kamisama Hajimemashita is doing a lot for me. Often the biggest flaw in any anime could be the unnecessary complexity, which inevitably leaves plot holes and confusion in its wake. This complexity isn't so much the story itself but the anime adaptation that tries to cram too much into its single season run and here we don't see that.
Keep it simple stupid. Good words to live by on occasion and in this series' case, good words to abide by for storytelling.
Final Note: I'm convinced the number of shojo bubbles has increased yet again.
