This episode was just confirmation of how much I love this series. Maybe because the beginning of the series has proven to be a breakaway from the norm of all other sports anime but I find it to be refreshing especially since I haven’t been impressed with anime adaptations of my other favourite sports manga; namely Eyeshield 21 and Slam Dunk. So it’s no secret I love sports mangas and animes, but the problem I face along with many others is actually finding one that I enjoy. This is the case since there are as many sports manga’s out there as actual athletes but even some of the best sports mangas are still not very well known outside of Japan. So here is just a list of sports manga and anime which are considered to be amongst the best (some through my opinion maybe). I am definitely glad I chose to watch and review this anime. This weeks episode was a nice watch right until the end, when it became the best episode I have ever seen when it came to watching a sports anime; a plot twist this early in the story is either expected or unexpected, though I have not been able to determine if the plot twist itself was expected – the more likely scenario being that a plot twist is expected but not this plot twist! I’m going to say this again: I’m definitely glad I chose this anime.

The other sports anime of the season, the introduction to which explained the meaning of the shows title – the “area” is the box on the football field and the “knight,” the one player that can dominate in the box, is the one thing that is missing from Japanese football. Whether or not one could enjoy this anime isn’t really dependent on being a football fan; I personally only watch the world cup and even then I barely pay attention until it really gets going. For any sports anime fans: this might be one for you to watch out for.

So here’s a look at the 24 upcoming shows, most of which are starting in January. A mix of sports, gag, mecha, horror and action this time round as well as quite a few sequels out this season so after the first episodes of the series are released we will confirm what we are going to review on a weekly basis. We have a good idea of what series we will be reviewing but it may be possible that if we end up finding a series has gotten terrible after the first few episodes we will drop it. (more…)
