The latest episode of Makai Ouji was definitely not what I was anticipating.  After the previous filler-like episode, this episode ramps up the action while introducing a handful of new characters.

Granted, not all of those characters will be lasting ones.  Colonel Swallow (Mycroft’s father), for example, is introduced as a devious sort of character only to be declared dead by the end of the episode.  His corpse was possessed by Eligos, another one of Solomon’s Pillars.  What is interesting, and perhaps a bit refreshing, about this particular demon is that, although she is one of Solomon’s Pillars, she intends to destroy him (William), at least in this episode.  It remains to be seen whether she will continue to be a threat to William, or will join with him as the other demons have.

Eligos’s reaction to William raises some questions, though.  Is it really Beelzebub’s intention to destroy, obliterate, or otherwise harm the Elector?  What exactly would happen if the Elector did die?  How would it help Beelzebub and Camio, whom he supports for the role of interim ruler?

And, of course, this episode has revealed that Kevin is the angel Uriel.  Now, in much mythology, Uriel is an Angel of Presence, meaning that he would be allowed to enter the presence of God.  If this is the same sort of mythology Makai Ouji is following, that would make Kevin/Uriel a high-ranking angel.  I wonder if he ever plans on giving William his ring.  (As a side note, I would love to know what’s up with the whole one-wing thing…if anyone could fill me in, that would be cool.)

It looks like we’ll be seeing more of Beelzebub and Astaroth in the next episode, as well as meeting at least one new demon.  It will be nice to get some more background about the high-ranking demons who support candidates for interim ruler.
