It’s interesting how two episodes of Kamisama Hajimemashita can be so different when their covering one arc.
Kamisama Hajimemashita – 08
After some light fan service – for us men, not women – and some light humour, this episode took a turn for the serious. I suppose it was to be expected with all that talk about Tomoe’s past and the serious end to episode 7. Still, I wasn’t enjoying myself as much as I usually do.
Mizuki really stirred the pot between Nanami and Tomoe, which was fun to watch. In general, whenever another member of the reverse harem interacts with Nanami, it’s fun to see Tomoe’s reactions to it all.
It was a fine episode until Tomoe’s past became the main subject. It’s not that Tomoe’s past is killing the story for me……well, kind of but I wouldn’t mind it as much if it wasn’t brought up every other episode. One thing about the plot did take a turn for the new and that was Mikage’s involvement.
Mikage’s becoming a suspicious character in all of this. His involvement may bring something more interesting to the table and I hope that happens soon. So far his from the shadows puppeteering hasn’t produced any results.
Kamisama Hajimemashita – 09
After episode 8, this episode was just amazing. Loved the comedy, loved the turn of events so much that I excused the continuation of the serious subplot from the previous episode.
This episode was truly the return of the Kamisama Hajimemashita I love to watch, and for once Mizuki was hilarious. I’d go as far as to say that he was the best thing about this episode after his kiss with Nanami; some masochist humour is always fun if used properly.
Of course there was the problem of Tomoe’s story not bearing much fruit yet again. My biggest gripe with the series is that it never sees a story about Tomoe’s past through and ends up just piling on top of the surrounding mystery behind his character.
This episode was great, however the ending brought some bad news. We’re not done with Tomoe’s past just yet. The next episode is going to be about his and Mikage’s past, which sounds more interesting though I’d prefer to watch something more comedic.
