Weekly Shonen Jump – Review of Issue #11 2012

0

Since I read a lot of series running in WSJ and reviewing each of them in their entirety would take a long time, I decided that it would be faster to do them all in one go.  Unfortunately I can’t review Kuroko no Basket since, it is behind in scanlations but I will be doing so for the following series:

1. One Piece

2. Bleach

3. Naruto

4. Hunter x Hunter

5. Nisekoi

6. Beelzebub

7. Bakuman

8. Magico

9. Kurogane (more…)

Essential Shonen Sports Manga

1

So it’s no secret I love sports mangas and animes, but the problem I face along with many others is actually finding one that I enjoy.  This is the case since there are as many sports manga’s out there as actual athletes but even some of the best sports mangas are still not very well known outside of Japan.  So here is just a list of sports manga and anime which are considered to be amongst the best (some through my opinion maybe).  This article contains only shonen series but I may follow up with one about seinen series. Fairy Tail 265 – Dragon Killers

My frustrations keep mounting! Why does Hiro Mashima insist on adding an insane twist that has a lot to do with original plot whilst making us wait for the climax of this arc (i.e. the magic tournament)? Why?!

Another reason why I enjoy reading this series. (more…)

Bleach 478 – Let’s Go Our Separate Ways

So continuing on from the end of the battle from the last chapter, this weeks chapter continues on with the wind down of the arc.  This weeks chapter provides not much more than just an ending to this rather weak arc.  Not much exciting this week. (more…)

Golden Future Cup 2011 – Results and Manga Reviews

0

The Golden Future Cup has come and gone, but it has left some interesting pieces to be judged by the readers and also a piece or two that might end up being serialised in Weekly Shonen Jump.  Some of you might be familiar with the fact that Beelzebub and Nurarihyon no Mago were winners in their respective Golden Future Cup’s and other pieces such as Muhyo and Roji’s Bureau of Supernatural Investigation debuted in the contest.

This year’s Golden Future Cup had 6 entries; all of which have a fantasy type setting, although some were aiming for different genres.

I apologize in advance, but having been able to only read 4 out of the 6 entries, I can only give my personal opinion on those and later add my opinion on the missing 2. Just because I like giving my opinion, I’m going to comment whether the ranking is deserved or not.  Also seeing as how the winner is at least guaranteed to be published in WSJ, I’m going to release a follow-up article with my thoughts on what current manga will end and how the winner should approach the serialisation of their work. Naruto 568 – I Have a Name!

0

The fighting between Naruto, Bee, Gai and Kakashi continues in this weeks chapter but more focus is given to the strengthening of bonds.  This may not be another strong action packed chapter that we would like to normally see from Naruto but it is one that will serve as a grand pivotal point in the current arc and possibly future arcs. (more…)

One Piece 651 – Turf War

0

Oh yeah! Since the last chapter I have been dying to read this one since it involves Big Mam; another one of the Yonko!  Not only does this chapter introduce more characters, it also progresses the story to the point where the Straw Hat’s will soon be leaving Fishman Island and entering the New World!

Pretty awesome Boxing Day to just wake up and find out that a new chapter has been released! (more…)

Gate 7 – First Impressions and Volume 1 Review

0

Clamp’s new piece of work has it’s first volume out and is has been running monthly in Jump SQ since March this year.  The manga has already been picked up by Dark Horse for publication of English versions of the volumes and Norma Editorial for Spanish versions.

Clamp’s reputation for creating amazing works regardless of demographic has been earned for a reason; not many can keep creating hit after hit successfully since 1989, so they themselves have set the bar pretty high.

How does Gate 7 stack up? (more…)

D.Gray-Man: Volume 2 Review

0

Straight after reading Volume 1 of D.Gray-man, I just had to keep going.  The first volume was good to read as it very nicely introduced the setting of the story, explained the powers of both good and evil and introduced the protagonist of the story; all in all a great first volume to read.

The second volume was something I was initially looking forward to reading, but after doing so I’m not so sure whether the feeling of excitement towards the series was premature or just this volume was quite a big let-down on it’s own.

So which is it? (more…)

D.Gray-Man: Volume 1 Review

0

Okay so here’s the story – having felt quite guilty about never having paid for manga coupled with a few Amazon vouchers lying around, I decided it was time to purchase my first manga volume.  I didn’t want to go for something I had already read so I decided to buy volume 1 of D.Gray-Man.  Why? A few reasons:

1.  It’s still ongoing (even though it was moved from Weekly Shonen Jump to Jump SQ)

2.  I’ve heard great things about it

3.  It’s still one of the best selling manga in Japan, so it couldn’t have been bad

So was the first volume any good compared to other first volumes of other mangas? (more…)
