JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure The ANIMATION – 15

Joseph Joestar. Trickster, coward, bigamist.

Lest you forget the anime your watching is JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, the line above sums up the episode.Episodes like this one make the series rather difficult to write about. I know I loved this episode – the recent trend for JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure – but at the same time it’s hard to say why. Instead of thinking about one specific reason, I’ve come to the conclusion that all of it great.

This was another great comedy-action episode. JoJo’s manipulative and downright childish moves landed him in some hilariously awkward situations. They also invoked some crazy arm-twisting (literally) moves out of Wham as he blasts JoJo whilst an 80’s inspired dubstep beat is playing in the background. Not only does this episode end with him acquiring a wedding band from AC/DC and Wham, it sets up our next episode and arc.

The over-the-top attacks, the play on a warriors pride etc. all contribute to the greatness that is Part II of the story. Regardless, without Joseph it just doesn’t work. He highlights the craziness and humour of the series that perhaps Jonathan didn’t. In a strange way, the obvious becomes the better route for JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure because it captures the tone; this isn’t an anime to be taken seriously.

I realise I may have brought this point up before, but this was very much another JoJo-centric episode. Whilst most of the series relies on the JoJo’s to be the centre of attention, the side characters do take the limelight on occasion. This was not one of those times, as Caesar and Speedwagon blended into the background. Wham & Co. also got their fair share of screen time, since they are the final bosses of the series.

Next week we get to see arrival of Lisa Lisa. Rejoice as JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure will cease to be a sausage fest.
